Kagwad

    Kagwad is a village in Athani Taluk of Belagavi/Belgaum district.

    Main Deities – Idols of Tirthankar Shanthinath and Mahavir.

    Temples – There are 2 Digambar Jain temples at Kagawad.

    Main Temple – This temple in addition to the ground floor has Jain idols in the basements.

    • Ground Floor – In the ground floor are seen the metal idols of Tirthankars and a few yaksha and yakshis. In addition to this an idol of Brahmadev is also seen here.
    • 1st Basement – On this floor is seen a 2 feet high stone idol of Tirthankar Parshwanath in Kayotsarga and 2 marble idols of Tirthankar Parshwanath in Padmasana.
    • 2nd Basement – On this floor is installed a 3 feet high stone idol of Tirthankar Shanthinath in Paryankasana.

    Mahavir Swamy Digambar Jain Temple – This temple with a Manastambha has a 2′ 6″ high idol of Tirthankar Mahavir in Padmasana as the main deity. Also are seen many other small Tirthankar idols, Nandishwara, Ashta Mangala, Choubis Tirthankar and other idols. Also are seen a couple of marble Tirthankar idols and a black coloured idol of Lord Bahubali.

    Location – Kagwad is at a distance of 39 Kms from Athani, 4.5 Kms from Shedbala and 105 Kms from Belagavi. The nearest railway station is Shedabal.
