Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh), May 31, 2017: Traditional ceremony ‘Panchkalyana’ commenced at Digambar Jain temple, Laxminagar, on Monday. Panchkalyanak is a traditional ceremony of idol consecration and is observed when a new idol is installed at Jain temples.

The ceremony began with a grand procession, flag hoisting, abhishek pujan, religious discourse, purification of temple premises, Indra pratishtha and other religious events. Under the guidance of Samtasagar Maharaj, Nishchayasagar Maharaj, Abhay Aditya Maharaj and Sunil Bhaiyya, manglashtak and abhishek pujan began in the temple at 4:45 am followed by the procession at 6:30 am.

Around 20 chariots, three elephants, 12 horses, four bands and one children band participated in the procession. Women in saffron attire were carrying religious pitchers on their head while men wore white clothes. A religious flag was hoisted by Narendra Bilala at 8:35 am while the first kalash was placed by Vimlesh Jain.

Munishri explained the significance of panchkalyanak in the religious discourse. He said that when God is conceived the whole city is showered in immense happiness and jewels begin to fall from heaven. This was followed by a purification of temple by ‘mantra’ and Indra pratishtha, mandap pratishtha, abhishek and shantidhara. At 1:30 pm, ‘yagmandal vidhan’ was observed by devotees.
