Kochi (Kerala), September 1, 2011: Paryushan parv, the annual festival of the Jain community, is being celebrated in the city, highlighting purification of mind and body. On Tuesday, the community celebrated Janma Kalyana Mahotsav, remembering the 14 divine dreams of Thrishnadevi, mother of Jain guru Vardhamana Mahaveer.
The rituals of this day contribute to the income of the temple as the members auction the idols representing the dreams. On Tuesday all the 14 idols were auctioned, and after the traditional procession they were brought back to the temple.
The community members have been fasting from last Thursday to participate in the festival as it requires the faithful to purify themselves. -News Updates: Times News Network
