Hyderabad (Telangana), April 8, 2017: On the ocassion of 2616 birth anniversary of Lord Mahavir, 10,000 Jains will hold a Bhavya Shobha Yatra in the city. The yatra was announced by Pracharak Committee member at a meet on Saturday.
In the meet, Jain guru Acharya Shri 108 Pushpadant Sagar, who has been in the city for last eight months, shed light on Jainism and the life of Jain monks at Digambar Jain Mandir, Aghapura.
“Jain devotees visit temples and offer ceremonial bath to Mahavir’s idol during the Jayanti. The temples are lavishly decorated with flags to mark the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavir. Majestic chariot processions are also carried out across the city with the images, followed by thousands of devotees chanting prayers,” he said.
“The Digambara Jain saints and monks follow strict and rigid lifestyle. Digambara monks do not wear clothes as it is considered to be parigraha (possession), which ultimately leads to attachment,” he further said.
At the meet, Jains also demanded the government to shut down slaughterhouses for a day on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti. – News Courtesy: The New India Express
