Shedabala

    History – Shedabala is the birth place of the well known Jain ascetic Elacharya Paramapujya Muni Sri 108 Vidyananda Maharaj. We can find the Shanthisagar Chatra Ashram built under the guidance of Paramapujya Muni Sri Shanthisagar Maharaj here. Also we can find seven Jain temples in Shedabala they include the temples of Bhagawan Shanthinatha, Bhagawan Adinatha and Bhagawan Mahavira. The Shanthinatha Jain temple built of stone was built in the year 1292 A.D. The temples of Bhagawan Adinatha and Bhagawan Mahavira are said to have been built in the year A.D. 1942. We can find the Chaturvamshathi tirthankara mandir with the 24 tirthankaras (built in 1952), Sri Bahubali Mandir (built in 1960), Samavasarana mandir (built in 1989) and another Jain temple in the premises of the Shanthisagar Chatra Ashram. Shedabala was and is one of the important Jain Heritage Centre in the region and we find find around 700 Jain families residing at this place.

    How to Reach – Shedabala is situated in the Athani taluk of Belgaum district in Karnataka. It is situated at a distance of 32 Kms from Athani and has good transport facilities from Athani and Belgaum. The boarding and lodging facilities are available at Shanthisagar Chatra Ashram.

    Main Deity – Stone idol of Bhagawan Shanthinatha.
